The sanctuary at Loreto developed around a small stone house that Christian tradition identifies with Mary’s home in Nazareth and the place of the Annunciation. Medieval tradition described the house as carried by angels, while historical study has also examined the human transfer of its stones from the Holy Land. The shrine directs attention to the Incarnation, when the eternal Word truly made His home among us.
For centuries, pilgrims have prayed at Loreto and contemplated the hidden life of Jesus, Mary, and Joseph. The Holy House speaks of a home made holy by listening, work, family love, and God’s presence rather than by comfort alone. Our Lady of Loreto is also honored as patroness of aviation because of the tradition of the house’s flight. This novena asks Mary to help those seeking shelter or stability and to make every Christian home a place where Christ is received and served.
