More about St. Jude

The apostolic lists name Jude or Thaddeus among the Twelve, distinct from Judas Iscariot. In the Gospel of John, Jude asks Jesus why He will reveal Himself to the disciples and not to the world, leading Jesus to speak about love, obedience, and the indwelling of the Trinity. Christian tradition also associates him with the Letter of Jude, which urges believers to remain faithful amid false teaching. Later traditions connect his missionary work and martyrdom with St. Simon.

Devotion to St. Jude grew partly because many Christians avoided his name through confusion with Judas Iscariot. He therefore came to be invoked in needs that seemed neglected or without hope. This novena asks him to intercede for perseverance, wise action, and trust in God when circumstances are painful, uncertain, or beyond human control.
